Fractions

This week we Identifyed fractions.

Some Improper fractions are when there at least one whole already, but there are left overs.


One whole that has been sliced into quarters plus another three quarter sized slices There are sevenquarters in total.


When seven quarters is written in a fraction, the numerator (number of things we have) will be bigger than

the denominator (number of parts in one whole).


This task was confusing because of the numbers and shading.

Fractions

 This week we Identifyed fractions.

Fractions are a whole divided into numorus equal pieces.

Fractions include something call a numerator and a denominator.

The denominator is the number under the numerator. It shows you how much pieces there are.

The numerator is the number above the denominator. It shows you how much pieces you have.

This task was easy because some of the gaps were filled in.

Fractions

 This week week we shaded and labeled fractions. Fractions are a whole spited into equal pieces.

First I matched the fractions with thier labels.

Next I shaded and labeled the fractions.

Then I put some shapes down and spit it into equal fractions, shaded and labeled them.

I liked this task because I like making my own stuff.

Problem Solving

 I used place value to solve a math question.

The question is: A candy store put 8 jars of lollies for a guessing competition. Each jar contained 76 lollies. How many lollies are there altogether?

First I highlighed the key numbers of the equation. They were: 8 and 76.

Next I made it into an math sentence it is: 8 x 76. Then I took the ones 8 and 36, and multipled them. This equals 46.

Then I multipled 8 and 70 to which equals 560. 46 + 560 equals 608.

 So in concusion there were 608 lollies.

This was sort of hard because I didn't really understand the question that much.

Problem Solving

I used Rounding and compensating to solve a math equation.

 The equation is: A farm received a total of 119 millimetres of rain over a 2 month period. If 48 millimetres of rain fell on the farm in June, how many millimetres of rain fell on the farm in month 2?

First I highlighed the key numbers of the equation. They were:119, 48 and 2.

Next I made it into an math sentence it is: 119 - 48. Then I rounded it to the nearst ten: 50 and plused two.

Then I plused 2 to 119 which equals 121. 121 - 50 equals 71.

So in concusion 71 millimetres fell on the farm on the second month.

This was hard because I didn't really understand the question that much.

I completed the speed demon challenge on additions up to 20 My time was 6 minutes and 41 seconds. My score was 100 out of 100. Next time I will do divisions.

Problem Solving

We had to figure out analog time questions.

First we discussed what the answer to the question was.

Next we talked about the results or prosses about our answers.

Lastly we talked with Mr Ogilvie about our answers in a group

I liked this activity because sometimes it had addition and subtration.

Analog Time

 Analog clocks are a piece of technology that help tell time.

A clock has three mechanisms. The second hand moves around the clock the fastest. The minute hand is the longest and moves when the second hand comlpletes rotation. A full rotation of the minute hand is 1 hour.

The one hour hand moves the slowest and moves between the big numbers.


An analog clock requires you to look outside to know if it is morning or afternoon.

Multiplication

Multiplication is a fast way of adding up the same numbers. The three, four and six times tables are an example of multiplication.

The three times tables are multiplying three by a number of groups.

The four times tables are multiplying four by a number of groups.

The six times tables are multiplying six by a number of groups.

Time tables are a basic way to remember basic multiplication equations like 1x3 and 3x2. The next times table to learn are seven, eights and nines.

The Average Group Score

This week we tried to find the average group score on Athletics day. This inculeded statistics.

When adding data use multipliation and addtion because these made it easier to solve the equations.

If a data set was like this: 2+3+3+2+1+3+4+2, we could make it easier to solve this equation by doing this:(4x1)+(3x3)+(2x2)+(1x1) instead. We add up all of the totals and it equaled 18. This strategy is quicker than repeated addition because instead of adding up the numbers individually, you can add them up all at once.

Collecting Data

There are different ways to collect data. The first thing you need to before collecting data is to first ask a question like what is the likelihood of rolling a 6.

Next roll the dice as many times you want, and see how many times the dice rolled on a number. A tally chart can be used to keep count.

Then find the 2 numbers that the dice landed on the most and those numbers are the most likely numbers to land on next time.

Lastly make a graph that shows the amount of times the dice rolled on each number.

Collecting data helps people understand how the frequency and how to interpret data.

Solving Strategies

Our 2 week math session was based around using multiple strategies to solve different math problems.

Problems 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 were solved using Simple Addition, Written Algorithm, Counting Forward, Number line, Place Value, Skip Counting, Subtraction, Groups and Multiplication.


For the number line on problem 6 we added 10 to 10 to make 20, then add 5 to make 25. We were also able to use tally lines to find the answer.


For problem 7 we knew 30 divided by 5 could be solved using place value. We did 3+2=5, 10x3=30 and 30 divided by 5=6.


I had fun solving math strategies and I wait to do this again.

Addition and Subtraction Facts

L.I. To go faster in addition and subtraction.

Today we had to go faster in our addition and subtraction. I got some wrong and some correct and that will help get a better score then 4m 56s. So I have to inprove my math and get 3m and 20s. So I have to go faster at typing numbers and never make incorrect answers.

Pie Chart




Today we made spreadsheet and on it we created a pie chart made from our favourite colours. But when we made it we had to change the colours and before all of that we wrote it on a board and instead of numbers we used tallymarks.
