Summer Learning Journey Day 3-1 (Step it up)

This week for the summer learning journey I did a kowhaiwhai art by using the copy and paste buttons..

There are different types of symmetry like reflectionrotational and translational . Instead of using rotational and translational I used reflectional symmetry because I wannted it to look like 2 waves going into each other. I changed the background into a beach so it can represent summer.

Summer Learning Journey Day 3-3

This week for the summer learning journey I created a obstical illusion.

I had to to insert a photo and an image of the illusion I chosed.

Here is my illusion. My illusion makes it look like its infinite like your corney uncle's jokes

Summer Learning Journey Day 3-2

Today I finished another task for the summer learning journey. This was also a Maori task.

First I went to the summer learning journey blog so I can see what to do.

After that I copyed a google slide that had that challenges on it.

Lastly I finished doing the last task on the slide

I enjoyed doing this task because I got to learn new Maori sentences.

Quality Comment

Today I blogged on David's blog for the summer learning journey.

I commented on his chunky challenge blog post and I liked his blog, I was also impressed on how well done he has learned.

Summer Learning Journey Day 3-1

For the third task for the summer learning journey I made the koru art by using the copy and paste buttons. I made 1 of the waves going into each other and the other one going into each other but I fliped it upside down. I changed the background into a beach so it can represent summer.

This is my koru art:

Shelter Presentation

This week me and my group presented our presentation about our emergency shelter.

When we started presenting our presentation the first and second person from my group forgot what to say and me and the rest of my group just stood there waiting for them to finish his line.

When the time was up for our presentation we got a little bit of feedback about our shelter and our presentation. The feedback they gave was to get prepared for the criteria.

Lastly all the 10 groups that were showing thier presentation got decline except for one of them.

I enjoyed presenting our presentation but some of the time was nervous.

Floral Insect art

This week we made insects out of leaves, flowers and more.

First we watched a video about what to do.

After watching the video we went to find our materials but before getting our materials we had to ask Mr Wong and Mr Oglivie.

Lastly we all made our insects.

Here is my hand made insect:

Summer Learning Journey Day 2 -1

Today I did day two activity one for the summer learning Journey.

First I looked at the Summer Learning Journey to see what I should do.

Then I opened the task and filled it in, this task is about  filling in a template with sentences that we think the people in the story maybe said.

I enjoyed doing this and but it was stort of hard doing the comic

Close Activitys

Comprehension strategies help people understand and learn more about what’s happening in the text or book.

Predicting and questioning can be used before reading, so people can guess what's going to happen in the next part.

Prior knowledge and inferring can be used during reading so people can learn words.

Summarising and making connections can be used after reading so people can see if they understood the whole story, ask questions and make connections.

Knowing how to use the comprehension strategies is important so people can use it during reading.

LI.to test grammar knowledge.

Summer learning journey activity 1

This week I did a Summer learning journey activity about colouring.

First we had to choose an image to colour in. Next we had download a copy of it. Then we take a screen shot of the original art and lastly we Describe why we chose a different colour for one of the objects in the painting.

I first colored the pedestal red just to give it a japanese look. Next I colored in the robe blue and yellow because I wanted it to look normal. Lastly I colored the torch pink so I looks like a popsicle.

I enjoyed this app because I can learn and practise how to colour.

Maori Places

This week we had to match up translations of Auckland Maori place names with the English place names.

We looked at Tamaki Makaurau place names, thats Auckland, checking their meaning and matching the translation to the place.

I enjoyed trying to find out where the right places go and learning what some of the places mean.

Filming

My writing group and I started filming our story using our screenplays, narratives and storyboards.

First we practised learning our lines from the screenplay and then we used the storyboard to tell the place where the actors will be in and how they would act.

After learning our lines and using the storyboard we started filming the four scenes of our story.

I enjoyed filming the story but some of the time it was hard.

LI: to create a shooting schedule.

Commanding Conversations

Comanding conversation is a can do based on writing.

I created two different conversations. The first one I did was about two people having an argument over who was going to win a motorcyle race. The second conversation was about three people going to go fishing

My favourtie part of doing this task was writting a sconversation because it helps me learn different puntuation and how to use it.

LI: To write descriptive conversations

Maori

This week we did a task named Auckland volcanoes.

Some volcano names are Puketāpapa, Pukewiwi means Mt Roskill, Maungarei means Mt Willington and Rarotonga means Mt Smart.

The second activity was the weather sheet where we had to look up the weather from the Maori dictionary. For example He kapua means cloudy and he paki means sunny.

I got three wrong and the rest correct. I'm trying to get all of them correct.

I want to do more activities like this again.

L.I To learn volcano names.

SSR Selfie

This week for SSR Selfie I read a book called "Don't wake the dinosaur".

The first questions were: What was the book called, Who's the author and who are the main characters. These questions were easy. After doing that I read the book for 15 minutes because I knew the next questions were a little harder.

After reading the book for 15 minutes, I was ready to answer the other questions. The other questions were actually kind of easy.

I enjoyed reading this book.

KiwiSport

Today at touch rugby we learned two basic skills from last week. The two skills that we learn was the two man settle and three man settle.

First we did a three settle. A three settle includes three people. In the front is A, in the middle is B, and in the back is C. A has to plant the ball and then B has to grab the ball and then pass it to C.

Afterwards we did a two settle. A two settle includes two people. In front is A, and at the back is B. A has to plant the ball and step back so B can pass it to A

Then we played a game of touch. The aim of this game was to use three man settle and two man settle, two man settle and three man settle helps gaining meters.

I found it easy because I already knew two of the skills.

The Average Group Score

This week we tried to find the average group score on Athletics day. This inculeded statistics.

When adding data use multipliation and addtion because these made it easier to solve the equations.

If a data set was like this: 2+3+3+2+1+3+4+2, we could make it easier to solve this equation by doing this:(4x1)+(3x3)+(2x2)+(1x1) instead. We add up all of the totals and it equaled 18. This strategy is quicker than repeated addition because instead of adding up the numbers individually, you can add them up all at once.

Understanding how to use statistical investigation is important because it can help, find different kinds of scrose

LI: To use statistical investigation.

StoryBoards

A storyboard is images displayed in a sequence that shows the characters movments, the camera angles, and the story settings.

The images should show enough detail so the reader can know where the setting is without someone telling them. People film it on different angles and show the emotions on the characters face to make it more interesting.

A storyboard are different scenes in the narrative. People add a little sentence to give it more detail if the picture dosen't have enought detail. A person who draws a storyboard knows if he did a good job when someone can tell where the setting is without someone telling them.

There are no words in the image because the main ideas is to show the setting, the angles of the camera, and the characters.

Knowing how to write a storyboard is important part because it can help the actors understand how it flows. Storyboards help people visualise the people's surroundings and enviroment.

Comment thread

A comment thread is conversation that consists of a greeting, good feedback and a question. Open questions can expand the length of the conversation and give the readers more to think about when answering.

This conversation was on a math blog post made by Marawan.

By comment threading, people can practise using open questions in a conversation. It also gives people anunderstanding of the activity and the person that did the task.

Film Festivel

This week we went to the Hoyts Sylvia Park movie theater where the 13th Manaiakalani film festival was held at. After everyone waiting patiently for the other schools we quickly got in our seats.

The first film was our one. It was about Farzana not sanitizing her hands and everyone running away from her.

My favorite film was the tribute to essential workers one because it was really funny and I liked their choice of music.

I enjoyed watching other schools films because they were so creative.

Basic facts boxes

This week I took the speed demon. I decided to do addition and subtraction.

Once I was finished answering the equations my time at was 3 minutes and 52 seconds. My time was really slow but I think I can do better.

I found answering the questions kind of hard because there were a lot of them.

Maori

This week, we translated names from Te Reo Maori to English.

First, we completed a name translation document. We translated names like Hare, Haimona and Piripi into engilsh names.

After that we played a game. The game that we played was about using our left (Maui) and rights (Matao).

I enjoy learning new things.

Screenplays

Screenplays are scripts that are converted into parts only. Screenplays can give some descriptions on how actors should speak and it can also give more detail.

A screenplay sceen number should be in all caps. The name also is should be in caps and center aligned. If there is any extra information people would put it in brackets under their name.

The actors line is usally center aligned under their name. The lines don't need speech marks because it could help what tone to use.

Knowing how to write a screenplay is importaint, because if an actor dosn't get their line the movie might be bad.

Maths

This week for maths we had to buddy up with a person and tell each other what we learnt from last week.

My buddy showed me a slide about currency and taught me about it. The money that we use in New Zealand is 10 cents, 20 cents, 50 cents, 1 dollar, 2 dollar, 10 dollars, 20 dollars, 50 dollars and 100 dollars and the money that we used to have are 5 cents.

Money can be used in different ways like if I got a drink and some lollies from the shop and the drink and the lollies will of costed 3.20 because the drink costed 1.50 and the lollies costed 1.70. To figure out how much it costed you have to split up the numbers and when your done doing that you can add them up like this: 1+1 dollars equal 2 dollars 50+70 cents equals 120 cents but take away the one hundered because you cant go past one hundered so add the 1 from the 120 with the 2 dollars because its a one, then that will be 3 dollars and 20 cents.

I think my teaching experience was a 9 out of 10 because I think I did a good job teaching my partners the information that they learnt.

Touch

This week, we were learning how to do a two and three man settle.

A two man and three man settle is the action of two or three people moving the ball up. To do a three man settle, person A needs to initiate the touch and roll the ball. Then person B needs to be dummy half and picks up the ball, then passes the ball to person C. Person C then runs to the next cone and repeat it.

The last activity we played, was touch. We walked through how to play touch for the people new to it. We used our skills while walking through it that we learnt over the past few weeks.

I enjoyed this week session, but found it easy because I am familiar with touch rugby.

LI: To learn how to play touch.

Inquiry

This week, our company (Life Savers) brainstormed ideas for an emergency shelter design. We needed to think of the structural shape and design of the emergency shelter. We also needed to think about what our shelter will be designed to resist.First, we sketched on a piece of paper of what shape we're doing for our emergency shelter, and my group picked a triangle. This is because a triangle have sharp points and it can make things slide down from it

Next we used a software called sketchup to make a 3d design of our shelter. Sketchup is a program that allows people to design and create anything they want in three dimensions.

We decided to make the shelter out of tungsten because it is strong and brick because it is thick. We think these are suitable materials for water and wind natural disasters.

Some changes that we want to make are making the shelter big because it looks small and want to make the inside spacious so that we can put that things we need to survive

The size of the entrance is 2.15 meters and the size of the shelter is 3.45 meters just in case of an emergency. The walls of our shelter are pretty thick because the shelter is made out of tungsten brick. There should be windows so that the people inside the emergency shelter are aware of what is happening and can identify if it is safe to exit the emergency shelter. The windows should be fairly big, about 2 meters so that people can see out of them clearly.

Duffy Theater- Bex meets Milly

We watched a performance by the Duffy theater group about the Coggen. A Coggen is a mythical creature that is a mixture of a cat, dog and chicken.

Before the show, the actors introduced themselfs. Then we sang the Duffy song.

Then the actors performed for us.

Lastly the Duffy group held a question and answer session.

I enjoyed the performance from the Duffy group.

Maori

This week, we translated words from Te Reo Maori to English.

First, whaea Odie remineded us the meaning of 'roto, waho, runga, raro, mua and muri'. Roto means in, waho means out, runga means up, raro means down, mua means forward and muri means backward.

We completed a name translation document. We translated names like Keita, Ihapere and Rahera into engilsh names.

I enjoyed this activity but translating the words were sometimes hard.

Narrtive

Narratives are fictional stories as known as made up.

The structure of a narrative is TOPES. Title, Orientation, Problem, and Solution. Orientation answers the questions when, who, what and why. Problem shows the main thing thats wrong in the story. The events shows the steps of solving the problem. The solution shows the final steps of solving the problem and their new normal life.

Third person is used in writting a narrative. Third person are words not saying 'I' or 'we'. Third person is sort of a different perspective of saying something to a friend or someone.

Past tense are usually used in narratives. Past tense are words such as: walked, nodded. Some of the past tense words are a bit different like: taught, tried and carried.

Understanding how to write a narrative can build up your writing skills to a next level or step of being a author.

Kiwi Sport

This week for touch we leaned a new skill.

The new skill that we were taught was about planting the ball. To plant the ball we had to put the ball between our legs and step over it so the other person can get the ball.

After we did that, we played a game. There were two teams, some people got a ball and some people didn't. The people that didn't have a ball had to touch people in order to get a ball and the people were touched couldn't tag the person that taged them.

Lastly, we practised passing the ball, scoring a try and catching the ball. There was a attacking team, and there was a defence team. When we got the ball we had to score a try with it and the defensive person had to touch us but before we scored a try.

I like learning new things and having fun.

LI: To practise the basic skills in Touch rugby.

First, we learnt the meaning of 'roto, waho, runga, raro, mua and muri'. Roto means in, waho means out, runga means up, raro means down, mua means forward and muri means backward.

We completed a kupu revision. We translated some words that were about size, bodies of water and food.

After that, we translated some different Maori words like places, bodies of water and food. We looked at learning the geographic features that are in Maori.

I enjoyed this activity and translating the words were hard.

LI: To revise and translate words from Te Reo Maori.

The math behind Rugby

Maths is used in almost every job. The jobs that use maths a lot are: medicine, science, engineering and more. Some jobs don't use maths a lot, they can just use basic addition or multiplication.

In Rugby you can use statistics, counting and measurement.

For statistics you can just do the collecting data part of it, you can collect data like how fast your opponents are and how slow they are and you can see the most areas that people don't go to. For counting you can see how much points your team has and when the timer is going to end. For measuring you can measure how far you need to run and how long you need to pass.

It is important to be good at statistics because if you go to an area with a really fast person and you don’t know, they might take the ball off you and score with it. It is important to be good at counting because if a black out happens and you forget what the score is, both of the teams might have to do that all again and get exhausted. It is important to be good at measuring because if you don’t know how long you need to throw you might throw the ball to an opponent.

LI: To identify the maths used in jobs.

Maori

This week for Te Reo Maori we did a task called Kupu.

In the task we learnt different words. For example Kaumatua means boring and Waka means vehicle.

We had to look in the maori dictionary for the English version of Maori words.

This helps us learn more Maori words.

Keeping it cold and warm

Insulators are used to stop heat from moving place to place. Five materials were tested for the ability to insulate: glass, plastic, metal, paper and polystyrene.

The best Insulator materials for keeping things warm was polystyrene, plastic, metal and paper and the ones that were bad were glass.

The best Insulator materials for keeping things cool was metal and paper and the ones that were bad were plastic, polystyrene.

The best Insulator materials for both were metal and paper.

L.I to learn and practice experimental methods.

Touch rugby

Today we learned some basic skills for touch rugby.

First we learned how to tap the ball, catch and pass the ball.

Afterwards we played passing drills to get better at commiting to the ball and catching.

I enjoyed learning these skills because it helped me get better at touch rugby

Collecting Data

There are different ways to collect data. The first thing you need to before collecting data is to first ask a question like what is the likelihood of rolling a 6.

Next roll the dice as many times you want, and see how many times the dice rolled on a number. A tally chart can be used to keep count.

Then find the 2 numbers that the dice landed on the most and those numbers are the most likely numbers to land on next time.

Lastly make a graph that shows the amount of times the dice rolled on each number.

Collecting data helps people understand how the frequency and how to interpret data.

L.I. to collect data.

Touch

Today I learned how to pass and catch with the ball in touch.

When we went to the court we were taught about catching the ball, so each of us got a ball from the bin and with the ball Mr Ogilvie told us to throw the ball above our heads 10 times.

Next Mr Ogilvie told us to walk while throwing the ball above our heads. Then Mr Ogilvie told us to get a partner because we were, practising passing the ball so I picked David to be my partner.

Lastly we played a game that had both of the skills we were taught. The goal of the game was to try to put a ball inside of hula hoops. When a whistle blows the person with the ball cant move so our partner has to run to the hoop and put it in.

I enjoyed practising touch and I cant wait to do it again.

Inquiry exparament

This week we did an experiment about absorbing water. When I got into a group one of my

partners first got an empty tray and my other partner got their chrome book to record the

experiment. After my partner got an empty tray they poured water into a beaker up to 100

millimeters and put 5 drops of food coloring into the water. After my partner was done pouring

water up to 100 millimeters I got 50 grams of cotton.

When we were all done getting our materials we were ready to do the experiment. When we were

doing the experiment we first had to fold the cotton and then we had to be very careful of pouring

the water on to the cotton and also we also had to give the cotton a little time to absorb.

When the cotton was finished absorbing we poured the left over water into the beaker we used, then we measured the left over water from the beaker and our results were 4ml not absorbed 96ml absorbed.

The experment we did was fun but it was also messy I hope to do this another time because I had so much fun doing it.

L.I to learn and practise experimental methods

Formal and Informal

Informal and Formal talk about something inappropriate or appropriate for a situation.

Formal is when something needs to be followed with respect like if a prime minister comes to talk or when a important meeting takes place.

Informal is when something doesn't need to be followed with respect like if you playing at the park with your friends or when your playing a game of handball.

Informal and formal talk about the opposite of each other.

LI - To identify formal and informal language.

Te Tinana

This week for maori we learned about body parts.

The maori activity was called te tinana. We learned how to say different types of body parts in moari for example: head means upoko and stomach means puku. In the task we also highlighted the ones we know blue and the ones we searched black.

The activity was fun and hard for me because there were lots of words I didn't know.

L.I to learn different body parts in maori.

Gruffalo art

For art, we drew the cover of the Gruffalo story as a class. While we were doing it we learnt new skills with pastel during the few weeks we did this.

First my group was given an A2 piece of paper to colour in. We did this art piece using different coloured pastels and different art techniques.

Then we talked as a group by blending the important parts of the drawing. Blending can make colours darker or lighter. Blending can also create a new colour.

After that we began to colour in our parts of the cover we started collaborating with other groups about the blending, colours and worked together to make sure the art piece matched up to fit correctly when finished.

LI:To collaborate as a group and learn new techniques to create art.

Inquiry Template

For inquiry my group and I made a fire safety plan for our risk and hazards. The hazard for the fire is the fire, people and the weather and the risk is getting burnt.

First my group and I talked about the hazards, risks and consequences for our fire. Next we wrote down the hazards, risks and consequences.

After writing the hazards, risks and the consequences we wrote how we could prevent it and we also wrote down an emergency plan.

Finally after making the plans we made smores. By using our safety plans we roasted our marshmallow safely and made our smores

The smores were delicious and yummy I found it fun roasting my marshmallow. I enjoyed the activity really much.

L.I: To assess and conduct a real life scenario

Governing topics

Governing topics or policies are actions that political parties want to put into action when they get into power. The 2 most important governing topics to me are Education and Media, culture, and recreation.

Media, culture, and recreation mean different Systems spreading important information about news, culture and recreation activities.

Education is about how the government should be spending money on schools and students being able to learn new and different things.

Media, culture, and recreation are important to me because I like going outside and playing with my friends. Education is also important to me because
I like learning new things.

LI: to choose important governing topics by summarising all topics.
