Visualisation-The Highway Rat

Visualisation is when you imagine something like a story inside your head.

The story we visualized was the story of the highway rat. The highway rat is about a rat stealing everyone’s food from other animals. The rat soon gets lost in a dark cave but soon gets out and works in a cake shop.

Instead of copying the pictures in the book we visualized how they looked and how they felt.

My visualization looks different because I added too much detail. Having a different visualization is important because you can see how other people visualise stories.

AFL Training week 2

Group B went on the field and played AFL with our new coach Andre.

First we did all the skills we were shown last time. The first one we did was kicking. To kick the ball we had to face the laces on the ball away from us and while doing it we had to make a M with our hands. Then we had to make sure our foot was targeting the place where we would kick it.

After kicking the ball we passed it. To pass we had to make our dominant hand into a fist and our non-dominant hand into a plate. Next we used our plate hand to hold the ball and then we used our fist to punch the X on the ball.

Then we learnt how to tackle people with the ball. First you had to wrap your arm around the person's body and pull them to the ground. After learning how to tackle we learnt about a new skill called tip-off. To tip-off we had to throw a ball up and first person that slaped the ball did it.

My favorite part was slapping the ball when we were doing tip-off because I mostly slaped it.

Place value and saying numbers

Place value is a system that groups numbers based on thier size.

The position of a digit determins it value. When we say numbers we group them within the same house. For exaple 15709 has fifteen thousands seven hundred and nine ones.

Understanding our base 10 place value system allows us to pronounse big numbers properly. It also allows us to identify numbers before or after.

Mihi Whakatau

Mihi Whakatau is a maori term for a formal greeting.

Mihi Whakatau is traditionally used for welcoming, introductions and openings. It is undertaken by the Tangata Whenua (local inhabitants)

The Mihi needs to acknowledge the significant aspects to the place. The Maunga (mountain), Awa (river) and Iwi (tribe) that are generally used.

Introducing Ingoa (name), Oku tipuna (ancestored place) and where you live is important for the audience to understand the position of the speaker.

Manuhiri is the term used to describe a group/visitors that are being welcomed.

It is important to end with a warm welcome so the visitors know that there is no hostility in the 2 groups being together.

Being respectful of the land, the people and the purpose of a visit will ensure long lasting relationships and connections.

SSR Sefie-Worlds of birds

I read 14 pages of World of Birds for 13 minutes. Made by World book and illustrated by Quadrum Ltd.

This book talks about different types of birds like: songbirds, waterbirds, farmbirds and pet birds.

I like this book because I learned different types of birds from it and would recommend it to people who like birds

LI. To retell the text.

Print Design rules

I learned about the print design rules.

First Mr Wong taught us about the main aspects of the print design rules, colour, layout, text and composition.

Next, I figured out which posters were good and bad with my partners

Last I reorganised a poster to make it look good.

I learned to remember to make my borders the same size.

Handwriting

I learned how to write the alphabet, numbers and symbols properly.

I watched a video to show neat handwriting. I wrote the characters neatly into my writing book

I need to work on my lower case b, d, j, m, n and z. I also need to work on my capital M, N, and Z.

Prototec

This week I did a can-do called prototec.

First Mr Wong introduced us to prototec and told us how to get to it. On prototec there are six different stages: 2-3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

After Mr Wong introduced us to It we went on it and gave it a try. I had to do sixth stage because I was a year six.

Then we posted our results on a google slide. I got 10 out of the 40 questions wrong.

I made lots of mistakes, and I need to improve on my 1000's.

Ls1's Treaty

We learned about the three P's  in the Treaty of Waitangi and how they apply to our learning.

First Mr Ogilvie introuduced the three P's in the Treaty of Waitangi. They are protection, partnership and participation.

Then in groups we wrote statement about the three P's in Ls1. Ls1 figured out the three P's are all connected.

After that we used our group ideas and thought about how they connected to me.

I chose these three statements because they help me be successful with my learning. I will get better at not talking to my friends when learning.

AFL Training

Group B went on the field and learned new skills for AFL.

First we were shown how to pass the ball. To pass we had to make our dominant hand into a fist and our non dominant hand into a plate. Next we used our plate hand to hold the ball and then we used our fist to punch the back of the ball.

After learning how to pass the ball we learned how to kick it. To kick the ball we had to face the laces on the ball away from us and while doing it we had to make a M with our hands. Then we had to make sure our foot was targeting the place where we would kick it.

After kicking the ball we played octopus but instead of tagging we had hit the person with the passing skill we learned. Next we used our kicking skills to kick the teachers and coaches.

I enjoyed learning new skills for AFL and I can't wait to do it again.
