Toy Tech

For lnquiry we designed a party popper.

First we talked about the parts of the party popper. The parts were a: Rubber band, Plastic cup, Folded paper, Confetti and the top of a toothpick.

Next we talked about what the parts are for like: The rubber band is used to sling the rubber band up.

Then we thought about different design options like changing the plastic cup into a paper one because a paper cup is stronger.

Finally we wrote down the reasons why we changed the design.

I liked this task because I learnt how toy makers design different toys.

Basic Facts Boxes

I completed the speed demon challenge on my multiplication up to 10. My time was 6 minutes and 2 seconds. My score was  out of 90 out of 90. Next time I will try it up to 20.

SSR Selfies

I read 30 pages of 100 events that made history. Written by Clare Hibbert, Andrea Mills, Rona Skene and Sarah Tomly

The first page is about the first farm. This helped kick-start the first civilization.

The fourth page is about the first powerful woman was named Hatshepsut Egypt’s most celebrated female pharaoh.

The fifth page is about world religions. The major world religions are very old but each has shaped the lives of different people.

I enjoy reading this book because I learn lots from it.

LI. To retell the text.

At Panmure Bridge School our values are condensen down to care

Confinence:

We need to have respect to the person whos speaking and show positive attitude towards them.

Questions

For our lesson we revised words and sentences that we learnt before.

First we wrote questions about fruit. The answers we wrote hasd to use words like: runga and roto.

Next we had our group lesson. In our lesson we revised words like: maui and matau.

lastly we went over about our questions and answers.

I enjoyed this lesson because it reminded us words we learnt before.

Explanation Topic Planner

We used a explanation topic planner to explain about something.

First we thought about what we are going to explain.

Next we wrote 3 or more mechanisms about our topic and wrote a cause and effect sentence for each one.

Lastly we linked where our information came from.

This task was hard for me because some of the time I couldn't find good information.

Reading Table Mat

We used skimming and scanning to help us finish our reading.

First we used skimming and scanning to read a book about New Zealand film-makers. Skimming is like a airplane. Looking down on keywords as you feel you already have good prior knowledge. Scanning is like a helicopter. Having the abillty to stop and focus on information more oftern.

Next, we defined 2 keywords and when we were nearly finished we switched chrome books with someone from our reading group.

Finally we wrote questions that the author might think about and questions we thought about.

I enjoyed this activity because we used skimming and scanning again.

Flip, Slide and Turn

There are 3 different types of movements. Those 3 movments are flip, rotate and tranlation.

A flip/reflection is turning over in another direction.

A rotate/turn is something turning in different directions.

A translation is moving something or someone to a new position.

Cause and effect.

We wrote a cause and effect sentence for each of our mechanisms

I wrote the mechanisms for how chocolate is made and how fireworks work.

I wrote the mechanisms and used cause and effect to put inside the mechanisms.

Chocolate:

Chocolate is made by roasting the cocoa beans and removing the nibs in order to blend it to form a liquid. You then pour it into a mold  so it can set. The  shape and size of your mold effects  the chocolate  that results   when you put the chocolate in the freezer to harden.

Fireworks:

Cylindrical paper containers are used in order to hold all the firework parts together.

The fuse is used to create delays in order for the firing of multiple firework displays.

The bursting charge is used when the explosion goes off; sometimes  stars are included with the reaction.

Next time, I should work on my mechanisms to add more information.

Reciprocal reading

We used reciprocal reading to read What we invested and Where we lived.

There  are five roles for reciprocal reading: the leader, preditor, clarifier, questioner and summeriser.

The first PDF was about the goverments money that went  towards the war and the second one was about the people who didn't go and what they did to support those who fought. They raised money and sent clothing items to the men at the front..

I enjoyed doing reciprocal reading because my favorite role was the questioner.  I like learning new stuff and it made me think about what the text was actually telling me.
