Introductions

Yesterday I watched a video of an introduction and wrote hooks.

First we got to practise writing hooks by writing hooks about our teacher. Hooks catches people's attention by using surprising facts and a question.

Next we wrote hooks about how chocolate is made, the life cycle of a butterfly and how fireworks work.

After that we write an introduction for the 3 texts.

Did you know that butterflies only live for a few weeks? The butterfly life cycle starts with an egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and a butterfly. Did you know that it takes 28 to 30 days to complete the life cycle.

Did you know it takes about 400 cocoa beans to make one pound of chocolate? Chocolate is made by roasting cocoa beans, removing nibs and lastly blending the nibs to form a chocolate liquid. The chocolate takes 5 or 8 days depending on what chocolate it is.

Did you know that fireworks were made over 2000 years ago? The parts of a firework are the cylindrical paper container with string, a fuse, a bursting charge made with gunpowder and stars for the reaction. This process only takes 2 hours.

I like this task because I learned how to make my introductions better.

Kitchen Items

For our Maori lesson we revised words that we learnt before.

First we did a task about kitchen items. This task was about us labeling 10 kitchen items in Maori.

The words were raro, runga and anei. Raro meaning under, Runga meaning above and and anei meaning here.

After that we learned how to say "Kei hea te ___."and "Kei ___ I te ___."

I enjoyed this lesson because it reminded us words we learnt before.

L.I to learn classroom questions.

Balancing

For P.E we tried balancing while playing 5 sports.

The 5 sports were Hockey, Frisbee, Basketball, Netball and Rugby.

The first sport was Hockey. For Hockey we had to hit a ball with a stick and try and keep the stick off the ground on one leg. This was hard because hard to balance without the stick.

The next sport was Frisbee. For Frisbee we had to face sideways to our partner. We used both legs to see which one was stronger.

After that we did Basketball. For Basketball we had to stand on one leg and dribbling it to our partner. This was hard because I couldn't keep my balance and my feet were getting sore.

Then we played Netball. This was really hard because I was hot and my knees were getting tired of standing.

Rugby was the same as Frisbee but instead of a frisbee it was a ball. This was hard because me and my partner kept falling off.

Calendars

Calendars show us the day, week and months.

There are 12 months in a year, they are; January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December.

Months have 28, 30 or 31 days.

There are number patterns in a calendar by looking for four connecting days for example 20, 60 and 100.

Knowing before and after a number sequnce and 7 timestables it helps us read a calendar

The Three Similar Simple machines

Simple machines help people do work faster. There are 3 similar simple machines. Those machines are the incline plane, the lever and the wedge.

The incline plane helps people move something easier. The lever helps people lift heavy objects. The wedge is used to cut an object.

The Life of a Butterfly

We learnt about cause and effect.

The first thing we did was put together a explantion about the 4 stages of a butterfly.

Next we learnt about casual language.  There are differernt words like: because, when, if then and in order to.

The third stage of a butterfly is the chrysalis. When turning into a butterfly the caterpillar makes a chrysalis in order to protect itself.

I liked this activity because I learnt more about cause and effect.

Reciprocal reading

We used reciprocal reading to help us read the maori pioneer battalion.

First we had a leader. The leader would pick people to do roles like the predictor, and would make sure everyone is listening to the person talking.

Next the predictor has tpredict what the text is about. The predictor also has to ask questions like: Does anyone else have any predictons?

After the predictor, the clarifier has to identify tricky words. The clarifier can also ask questions like: Does anyone else have something to clarify?

Then the questioner has to answer questions like: What's your evidence, Why do you think that and does anyone else have any questions?

Finally The summariser haas to summarise what happened in the text. The summariser also has to ask questions like: Did I miss anything important?

My favorite role was the questioner because I always ask questions.

Here is our keyword list

Tipping Point

For HPE we revised more about the tipping point.

To learn more about the tippping point we played a game sort of like twister called block twister.

While playing we have to try keep our balance while moving our body by changing our weight.

After playing the game we talked about how hard the game was and how we can make it easier.

I liked this game because it was fun and teached us more about the tipping point.

Passing

We learned how to tell people to pass something to the left in Maori.

In our lesson we revised the three words we lerned last week. The words were tenei, tena and tera.

After that we learned how to say "hoatu te ___ ki te taha maui" meaning "pass the ___ to the person on your left."

I had a good time doing this even though it was hard,

Basic Facts Boxes

I competed the speed demon challenge on my 20 up to My time was 5 minutes and 59 seconds. My score was 80 out of 90 . Next time I will do my 6, 7, 8 and 9s better.

Simple Machines.

We found 6 simple machines that we used in school.

There are different machines like: The lever, incline plane, wegde, wheel and axel, pully and screw.

The lever can be used in a chair. The lever can lift the chair or lower the chair.

The incline plane can be used in a pathway. The incline plane can be used when going up a hill.

We found a wegde in our school hall. A wedge can be used to cut a object.

The wheel and axel can be used when riding a bike when going to school.

The pully can be used to pull up or down your school flag.

The screw can used to hold two materials at once like: wood and metal.

Using Manners

Manners are words that don't offened people like: thank you or exuse you.

Use manners when working with another person.

When using your manners you say it in a polite voice and while saying it you don't poke weird faces.

There are lots of words when using your manners like: May I, Thank you, exuse me, bless you, sorry and please.

Manners include the persons name and eye contact.

This task was fun because we got to film videos and learn about manners.

Problem Solving

We had to figure out analog time questions.

First we discussed what the answer to the question was.

Next we talked about the results or prosses about our answers.

Lastly we talked with Mr Ogilvie about our answers in a group

I liked this activity because sometimes it had addition and subtration.

Balancing

Today we took a range of pictures of balancing around our environment.

This photo shows us balancing near a wall.

This photo shows us balancing with playground equipment.

This photo shows us balancing with the help of someone from our group.

This photo shows us balancing with bearly any conent to the ground.

Next time I will try much more harder to balance with my partners.

Preposition

I learnt about prepositions.

prepositions was he pukapuka tenei (pukapuka meaning book and tenei meaning here.)

Another one is he pene tena (pene meaning pen and tena meaning there.)

Another preposition is he turu tera (Turu meaning chair and tera meaning over there.)

I enjoy learning new things.

completed the speed demon challenge on my multiplication up to 10 My time was 5 minutes and 42 seconds. My score was 90 out of 90. Next time I will go faster.

SSR Selfie

I read Super Diaper Baby invation of the potty snachers for 15 minutes. Written by Dav Plikey.

This book is about Super Diaper baby and Diaper dog fighting a evil doctor who was turned into pee.

Super Diaper Babys backstory was when he was born he accidently drank some super juice which made him have super powers

I enjoy reading this book because it has funny jokes and I cant wait to read more like this.

Explanation Planner

This week we had to explain how somthing works for example: Handball.

First we read a slide about explaining to know what it is. Explanation texts tells how or why somthing happens they also use questions like how or when.

Next we filled in a explanation planner. In our introduction we had to introduce the subject we chosed.

Then we had to describe and explain each point about the process. For explain visually we can use pictures or subheadings.

Lastly I did my summary. Handball requires multiple people and a ball to play the game.

The next time I explain somthing to someone my explanation will be much better and remember the structure TIMES.

Balance

We learnt how to balance ourselves. We did different possessions to help us balance.

Balancing is trying to make your body still when doing a pose. Balancing is used in sports for example: swimming.

One of the activties we did was trying to get across two benches without touching the ground, while theres four people on it. Two from both of the teams. But if someone got off and there wern't 4 people on it we had to restart.

The last activity we did was trying to balance on a football. We had two people holding the person on the football and when the person on the football was balanced the people holding him or her would slowly let go.

When trying to balance I did sort of good but I need to work on balancing on the ball.

Simple Machines

Simple machines are tools that help move an object.

There are 6 different machines for example: Pully, axel and wheel, inclined plane, wegde, screw and lever.

The pully lifts up heavy weight.

The axel and wheel helps transport different materials.

The incline plane helps people go up without them using the stairs while they're holding lots of stuff.

The wedge helps people cut objects in half.

The screw helps hold two materials.

The lever helps us move something thats heavy.

These 6 machine are still used today to move objects.

Maori classroom Questions

I learnt Maori versions of classroom questions with Fire Odie.

One of the questions was kua marama which means do you understand. Another one of the questions was kua matu which means are you finished.

I need to practice on my maori questions more.

L.I to learn classroom questions.

Analog Time

Analog clocks are a piece of technology that help tell time.

A clock has three mechanisms. The second hand moves around the clock the fastest. The minute hand is the longest and moves when the second hand comlpletes rotation. A full rotation of the minute hand is 1 hour.

The one hour hand moves the slowest and moves between the big numbers.

An analog clock requires you to look outside to know if it is morning or afternoon.
